Goals for 2011

This is my first yearly goals post, and I’m kind of excited about it! It’s not that I haven’t posted goals before, but it’s been pretty random (like here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here – and that’s all within the last year). Not very helpful, especially considering I’m still facing most of the same challenges 😦 .

For the last few years, I’ve assigned the freshmen in my New Student Seminar course to write SMART goals – Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time-Bound – for their first or second semester of college. I guess it’s about time I practiced what I preach 😕 .

My Goals for 2011

  • Write at least three blog posts a week
  • Lose 20 pounds by June 1
  • Complete at least two 5K races – all running, no walking
  • Complete a backpacking trip

I think this is more than enough to tackle in 2011. Some things are already on my calendar, like the backpacking trip and one 5K. The weight loss is a work in progress, and I hope that my daily posting can keep me on track with all of these goals.
